offroadfinnmark 700 is a 700 km/435 miles long one-stage offroad bicycle race, with a prologue from sea-level height Kåfjord to the Haldde summit, at 904 m/2965 feet m.s.l. The winning team of 2010, KTM-Proteinfabrikken (Jon Kristian Svaland and Tor Halvor Bjørnstad) spent 69 hours and 29 minutes finishing the race, having spent 14 hours and 40 minutes at various checkpoints. The race track course is mainly on cart roads and singletrack mountain paths across Finnmarksvidda, Finnmark's mountain plateau. The topography is challenging and the average pace is approximately 12 km/h / 7.4 mph.
offroadfinnmark 700 is a competition for teams of 2 or 3 riders. While frequently on technically demanding terrain, the race contains elements of bicycle orienteering using GPS and maps. The race takes place during the warmest part of the Finnmark summer, taking advantage of the midnight sun shining 24 hours a day. The better part of the course takes the rider through a truly wild arctic natural environment.
To finish the offroadfinnmark 700 race, all competitors need to be extremely fit and of optimal physical health. Good team spirit and cooperation skills are also crucial for attaining the best possible team performance and for making the right tactical decisions.
Offroadfinnmark 300 is, in terms of terrain, the finest outback experience to be had. It is 300 km/186 miles long, going past 4 checkpoints, 3 mountain cabins and a community house. The 2010 winners was Kjetil Johansen and Daniel Leirbakken. They completed the race in 22 hours and 39 minutes, having spent only 2 hours and 10 minutes at the various checkpoints.
